As a creative, I find joy in coming up with new, innovative ideas or putting a different spin on something that has been done previously. Challenging the status quo and thinking outside of the box is what I strive for in my design process. I love pulling inspiration from my life and personal experiences to create artwork that covers a wide range of subject matter. As a child, I was definitely an awkward, nerdy kid. Growing up in a small Louisiana town during the 90’s and early 2000’s, I was very limited on activities. I was always a sucker for great stories, so I chose to use my time reading indoors or watching television. I submerged myself in pop culture, odd facts, history, and the always entertaining stories my great-grandmother would tell about my Creole ancestors while sitting at her kitchen table on hot days.
I draw inspiration from those moments of nostalgia to tell a story through my work today, whether it’s through my use of color, concept, or incorporation of hand drawn elements. Those times also act as a reminder of where I came from, to always leave room for improvement, and inspiration to never give up no matter how difficult a task may be. My childhood, adulthood, self-journey of identity, and experiences as a black woman are used as tools in my work to create content that is a reflection of my own unique self.
